UK couple looking to wed in Italy?
Should you opt for a symbolic or a legal civil Italian wedding? For me, as a celebrant experienced in translating at Italian civil ceremonies and leading symbolic weddings it’s a no brainer …

The answer is definitely “go for a symbolic wedding in Italy and have a statutory (two plus two) legal wedding in the UK”:
- The UK “two plus two” costs a total of c £155 and the Italian equivalent will be double that or more.
- In Italy you’ll also need to pay extra to have documents translated and have a translator at the ceremony.
- Given Italian bureaucracy there is much more chance of a last-minute hitch.
- Why go to an Italian town hall when there are so many superb venues available?
